What is really detestable in this instance is that there is no way of knowing what the Pope said, & what Scalfari is paraphrasing, & what Scalfari's words are. It is not the function of the Pope to spread confusion. If it is something that Scalfari has misunderstood, then it urgently needs correcting. If it something Scalfari has maliciously attributed to the Pope, then equally it needs correcting as a matter of urgency. If, as it would appear, the Pope did say what is reported (and Scalfari is very clear that this is what he said) then someone needs to confront him publicly for an explanation or a retraction. Either way, the Pope has been attributed with a directly and gravely heretical statement. Surely the Magisterium cannot just let that pass?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2054853820111729866.post-54533566131104191742015-03-23T21:21:41.649+01:002015-03-23T21:21:41.649+01:00The inexcusable line that can't be crossed wou...The inexcusable line that can't be crossed would be the denial of the Real Presence in the Eucharist...Ever mindfulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10231921956177950005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2054853820111729866.post-43711694786602948722015-03-23T20:45:17.739+01:002015-03-23T20:45:17.739+01:00M+ If the Vatican doesn't deny this alleged st...M+ If the Vatican doesn't deny this alleged statement of the Pope, then, "silence giveth consent." Remember the October 2013 interview? Fr. Lombardi explained the Scalfari interview "should be considered faithful on the whole to the mind of the Pope, but not necessarily in its particular words and the accuracy of its details." So to me, this means, "yeah, maybe the Pope didn't use those exact words, but the ideas expressed are that of the Pope." So it's not hard for me to believe that Scalfari's reporting is in fact accurate. If that's the case, we would have bright-line heresy, no question. But honestly, what orthodox Catholic with a basic understanding of the faith has been listening to Francis?Aneashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01261129458353660074noreply@blogger.com
